Synthetic full backup & Active Full Backup Options
I have a question / issue with my lab ....
From Monday to Sunday a Job backup of all VMs in production is performed.
On Saturday I have indicated in STORAGE- ADVANCE running the Synthetic full backup on Saturday.
The question that appears, when I go into the repository and see ..... encounter files that are all .VIB ( incremental least first)
The same happens when the console Veeam B&R attempt to restore a VM [ indicates that all points are incremental, obviously the first point is FULL]
I chose this option because I want to do full backups from incremental rest . I no longer wish to perform total FULL from 0 that day.

Hello Adrian,
Thanks!
Could you specify your concern, please? You should have a chain of Full+increments(vibs). And every Saturday new full should be made of existing restore points.adrianIDC wrote:The question that appears, when I go into the repository and see ..... encounter files that are all .VIB ( incremental least first)

Yes Shestakov, as you say well it should be but The backup job instead Synthetic FULL SATURDAY see it as VIB.
The same extension of Synthetic Full is VIB and isn't FULL

Looks like the backup job performs basic incremental run instead of synthetic full.
Does the job run on Saturday at all? Do you have any warnings/errors during the job run?
Also, click "Report" in VBR to check if the Saturday run was incremental or full. Thanks!

Thanks for the info Adrian.
The behavior looks unexpected. The only guess I can make is that the job`s settings were different on Dec,12th. If not, please contact Veeam technical support.

Re: Synthetic full backup & Active Full Backup Options
I see is that when performing the backup job consisting of 33 MV ...... there is a saturation in the network and this is lost so it is practically impossible do it correctly.
The this repository configured as a shared folder (SMB) a A NAS and Veeam hasn't Proxy configured.
I doubt if it appears to the host configured as proxy own Hyper - V Veeam B & R that hosts

Re: Synthetic full backup & Active Full Backup Options
Am I understanding right, that the synthetic full has failed for this job due to network issues? Is it a remote repository?

Yes.
The repository is a NAS Fujitsu QR802 , indicated as a shared folder \\ ___.____.___.___
The backup job has a VM and 33 run no net loss so performs backup VM only some (eg 33 1 )
As you can see in the VM in particular, on December 12 it was to a synthetic performed and not performed (appears incremental)

Hello Adrian!
I believe network should not be the case. It`s better to check in logs if VBR tries to start Full Increment at all. By the way, have you contacted the support team? if yes, please provide the case number.
thanks!

Re: Synthetic full backup & Active Full Backup Options
I still have trouble creating full synthethic .
MF one backup job . Full create synthethic Friday .
I see in the repository and console options that the day has just INCREMENTAL .
Furthermore , I would like to confirm that at the time of restoring an entire VM , is more efficient and faster option Reverse Incremental.
Nor is it advisable to do one full backup (first job) and subsequent incremental ( 15 points) . Should you've FULL BACKUPS through ?

Re: Synthetic full backup & Active Full Backup Options
Adrian,
if you restore VM from the most recent backup, reverse incremental chain indeed will show the best performance.
However, if you are dealing with short chains, difference will not be significant.
