I'm in the process of testing a replication job, of a Linux VM, but when I perform a failover test the job fails with

I can manually power up the VM, and the server boots successfully to the login prompt. The only info I can find about this error message is to do with FLR.
Craig, does the failover actually fail? This is just a warning, as far as I can see, so the replica VM should be successfully started. Have you also tried with some other VM?
