Reduce CPU load - on-host backups

Post by Cragdoo »

Is there anyway to reduce/limit the CPU load the on-host backup during backups ?

We've got a 4 node cluster, that we see CPU load increasing when the backups run. Due to the storage we use, off-host backup proxy isn't possible just now.

We've already reduced the parallel processing streams from 4 to 1. Appreciate any pointers.

What compression level is used? If it's something higher than optimal, it might be worth lowering it. Thanks.

Ok, I don't think that besides lowering number of simultaneous tasks and compression level there is anything else you can do to reduce the load on the product host during backup activity. Thanks.

On a side note - in Veeam ONE every proxy node has a way to check CPU/Memory resource consumption from every job vs. other processes running on the proxy nodes. Should be helpful when troubleshooting this situations.
