Backing up Linux VM's

Post by DeaconZ »

Hi, I'm new to VEEAM. I have no problem backing up Windows VM's, but now I have a RHEL5 VM that needs to be backed up. I do not control filesystem access on the Linux VM and the Server Admin is reluctant to give me the root account password. Can I use a non-root account and sudo or something like that to get VEEAM to back it up?

Hello,

You don't need to specify any Guest OS accounts to backup Linux VMs. If you want to have consistent backups you should be using VMware Tools Quiescence option (enabled by default) which doesn't require direct access to VMs.

Thank you!

So, I just make sure VMware tools quiescence is enabled (Default) in Advanced, and that VSS is un-checked?

That's correct. Microsoft VSS is not supported for Linux-based VMs anyway.
