Merging Backup files

Post by ftbug »

Hi,

yesterday while running a backup copy job, it was interrupted by the copy interval expiring.

The copy interval was set to 5 days starting at 14:00, and i manually started the job that morning at 11:00, however the copy interval seemed to restart at 14:00 the same day, interrupting the backup and leading it to fail

once this happened, the backup copy job moved to 'Merging Backup files'. This then completed successfully, with one of the notifications saying 'restore point for the 06/01/2016 created successfully', however, when we check the restore points, and try a restore, this restore point does not show up at all.

It seems that this backup copy job has been fraught with issues leading to incomplete backups and failed restore points.

Is this a known issue at all?

Freddie, is it a first ever backup copy job run? In this case you can set the longer interval to let it finish initial sync correctly and then change it back to a daily value.

Hi Foggy,

this is not the first time the backup has run. We have lengthened the copy interval, but if we kick the backup off manually, the copy interval will still interrupt the backup.

the main issue we are having is that we are being notified of the successful restore being created, but not actually being able to see it or restore from it.

This means that the 19 hours that the merge was running, was a complete waste of time..

This is expected, since when you click Sync Now, the new synchronization interval lasts until a next interval must be started according to the schedule.

What files do you have currently in repository and what restore points do you see if trying to restore?

The earliest restore point we have is from november, which is when we initially seeded the copy job.

after this we have vib files from 12/01/2016 until 20/01/2016 and there is no reference to the ones created during yesterdays job for the 6th and 7th of january

You should see the 06/01/2016 date reflected in the full backup file name. This is a result of merging the full backup with increment created on 06/01/2016. What do you see if you right-click the backup under the Backups node and select Properties?
