Transferring Backup Jobs with Data

Post by szwicker »

I'm switching backup servers. I've installed Veeam Backup 4.1 on the new server and I've imported the current backup.
The files are there and I can restore from them if I need to BUT I want to be able to continue using those backup files rather than have to create a new one from scratch.
If I try to create a job with identical settings, it errors out because it states that the file is already there, etc.

Please Advise.

Seth, if you used remote SQL in you previous Veeam Backup install, you should simply point the new install to the same SQL server, and all your jobs will be there. If you used local SQL Express, then you should transfer the Veeam Backup configuration database (particularly, MDF and LDF files) from your previous SQL Express installation to the new one. Moving database between SQL servers is not straightforward task, but Microsoft provides good step-by-step guide on that - plus there are other 3rd party guides on the internet that you can use. Thank you!

Please search for "move mdf" in Google, there will be plenty of guides and articles to choose from.

So how about a "backup config and jobs to file" option in the next release? I've lost the Veeam server more than once, database included, and I wish I had a backup of the job definitions (even a text description of the choices would help) instead of having to rebuild all jobs by memory.

Dear all,

Now I already restored backup database to the new database veeam server. Restore is successfully, it look the same with previous veeam server, but the problem is it can't connect to repository, server that I have add and can't run jobs backup successfully. Anyone have any solution to solve this problem?

Thanks,

Have you also moved your previous Veeam B&R server to a new machine?

To move Veeam B&R to another computer, you should follow this procedure.
