Hourly Backup

Post by tourdemon »

I'm new to the product so I hope I don't come off as too dumb. Anyway, I have a VM that I want to back up hourly, I am using forever forward incremental, how many restore points should I set on the local repository and how should I set up a backup copy of this job to a cloud connect partner?

24 restore points per day of retention, unless you back up only at certain times of day.

Do you want the backup copy job to also be hourly, or would a less frequent copy be appropriate? Don't set up the backup copy job for hourly for the initial copy; start with a larger interval to allow the initial copy to complete, and then reduce the interval for incremental copies.

So how many restore points would that be for the copy job, 24 as well?

Hi tourdemon!

You can set the number of restore points as you wish. With 24 restore points (each one hour) you have backups for one day.
If you need to go further back in time, for lets say a week, you will need 7x24=168 restore points.

It depends on your needs and desires. How many restore points would you like to get on a secondary repository? And for how long should they be preserved?
