V9:How can i tell an Media Pool to use a special Tape Drive

Post by WinstonWolf »

Hello ,

I have an HP MSL4048 Tape Libary with two Fibre Channel LTO5 HP Drives .

Today i build in an additionaly SAS LTO5 HP Tape Drive . Now i have three Tape Drives .

I have an big Backup to Tape Job from an File Server backup . I want that the Mediapool from this Backup to Tape Job uses the faster SAS Drive for Backup .

Is this possible ?

Thanks

Hi WinstonWolf,

All drives are attached to the same library, right?

Thanks. Its possible to set the priority between devices like standalone drives and libraries using the failover order, however, drives within one library will be counted as one ‘library device’. That sounds like a good feature request.

Meantime, you can use the parallel processing feature to span your jobs across all drives – that should speed up the backup to tape process.

As a possible workaround – you can temporary disable ‘slow’ devices in the drive properties. I guess this can be achieved via scripting as a pre/post job activity: before starting the job, you disable the slow drive and once job succeeds – you enable it back via post job activity.

It is not a good solution for me . it is a Craft Solution .
Can it be that Veeam has some Problems with his Tape Option ?
In Germany there are legal regulations how long you must Data saved ( normaly for 7 years ) How much vbk Files for 7 Years should i backuped in the Cloud ??????
Or should i copy every Week 10 TB Data over an 155 Mbit DSL Connection ?
There is for small and Medium Companys the Best solution the Backup to Tape .
Only for Remember - many Customers uses Tapes , Hello Veeam !!!!!

[FEATURE REQUEST] Please build in as soon as possible this Option that you can assign Drives to Media Pools !!!!!!

I am not sure I follow you. I said there is no such functionality in existing version (basically, because the Global Media Pool where just introduced in this version).
