Backup copy VS file Copy
Hi Guys,
i've noticed file copy is much faster than backup copy.
we copy our local backup to NAS everyday after the backup is finished using Backup Copy.
i tried the file copy today and the speed is extremely fast 512 MB/s
We have sub folder called Veeam with Daily back up on it , and Configuration backup.
Created File Copy job to run once after Backup job to copy the daily backup files and configuration.
is the copy files gonna just copy the new changes or every time it has to copy al files over again.
thank you.
Noticed, this just a experiment not on production yet. as we are looking for best solutions.

Re: Backup copy VS file Copy
Hi, File Copy job will copy all files every time. It is faster than Backup Copy because it does simple sequential copy of files without validating their contents. Backup Copy jobs actually create new backup files, instead of just copying existing ones - so there is also random I/O at source, which further slows down processing. Thanks!

Re: Backup copy VS file Copy
I suspect the new v9 option "Read the entire restore point from source backup instead of synthesizing it from increments" might bring the performance of BCJ up to par with FCJ performance.

This option allows to avoid transformation of backup files on target, however does not prevent random reads on source.

Re: Backup copy VS file Copy
@gostev sorry for reviving an old post but I just wanted to point out that nowhere in the documentation for File Copy jobs does it state that it will copy all files every time. This seems less than ideal. Not a huge deal as I'll just write a powershell script but it would be nice if it was at least documented.Gostev wrote: ↑Jan 31, 2016 7:08 pm Hi, File Copy job will copy all files every time. Re: Backup copy VS file Copy
Hi, Ryan.
If you don't wish your files copied all the time, please use File Backup jobs. This will do incremental backups.
As it comes to documentation feedback, the best way to submit it is by using the Send Feedback link found at the bottom of each help page. This creates a ticket for our documentation department and this way it won't get lost.
Thanks!
