Veeam 9 Strange SQL-DB Performance Changes

Post by mbietz »

Hello,

since I upgraded to Veeam 9, there is much more stress on the SQL-Server which is hosting the veeam-database.

With Veeam 8 the performance counter for "SQL Database - DB Transactions/sec" for the veeam-database is averaged by 1, with a little spike at 01:15 am.
Now with Veeam 9 the performance counter is now averaged by 11 and with high spikes at 01:15 which goes up to 60.

Also the CPU of the SQL-Server is now going high at 01:15 and 3:15, and there is a high write I/o to the sql-sever disk at 01:15, with massive write throughput to disk.

All this started, since I upgraded to Veeam 9.

Do you know what is going on there?

Thank You.

Michael,

How many objects do you monitor in the infrastructure? Are you using typical or advanced mode?

Thanks!

Michael, I have discussed your question with our dev team. Higher load is expected at the initial time, when database is upgraded and re-indexed. Depending on the infrastructure size it can take some time. Can you please answer my previous question and let us your current DB performance?

Hello Vitaliy,

well, I monitor following objects

12 ESXi Hosts.
80 Datastores.
320 Virtual Machines.

I am using "typical"

I also see a permanent write access on the Veeam-One Server in the directory c:\users\...\appdata\local\veeam\veeam one monitor\perfcache since the update to Version 9

Regards

You can specify a different folder for performance data cache (the directory you're seeing permanent writes to). Our support team can assist you with this setting. Please reference this thread, so that they can quickly understand what option you need to change.

I opened a case for that, and attached a detail graphs, where you can see the changed behaviour.

Thank You

Michael

P.s. I have two more minor bugs found in Veeam-One 9, for which I will also create cases.

Here is the KB article on how to change the location of performance data cache directory: https://www.veeam.com/kb2100
