Dependent jobs scheduled via Windows Scheduler

Post by lrosa »

Hi,
some of the backup jobs of my customer are scheduled via Windows Task Scheduler because the schedule he wants is not handled by Veeam.

That jobs have dependent backup jobs.

If I run the first job using the command line provided at the end of the wizard the job starts, but when it finishes the dependent job does not start.

Is there a command line option to tell Veeam to run child jobs?

Veeam is 9.0.0.902 running on a Windows 2008 R2.

Thanks!

ciao,
luigi

Hi Luigi,
Could you provide the use case why your client is not satisfied with native Veeam schedule?

It may be accomplished by post-job activity.
By the way, job chaining is not considered as the best practice. We recommend to run jobs in parallel.
Thanks!

Thank you for your answer.

My customer wants to make a weekly backup on two targets on 1st, 3rd [5th] weekend and to other different targets on 2nd, 4th weekend in order to balance the backups and increase retention (the same strategies is applied to even/odd weekdays and even/odd months). In Windows Scheduler there is such option.

I will try do do simultaneous jobs, thank you!

ciao,
luigi

Since customer wants to leverage several targets, wouldn't it be better to use combination of backup and backup copy jobs? The former writes to some primary location, while the former takes case about secondary destination. Thanks.

By the way, starting from v9 there is new Scale out backup repository feature which let you combine repositories into one logical repo.
Looks perfect for the case. Which version your customer at?
