Testing Veeam 9 with VSPHERE

Post by alex1002 »

Good Day,
I am testing a customer with Veeam 9 and VSPHERE. The Vsphere contains 2 test servers. All the servers are on a 10GBE Switch, and Veeam also pulling 10GBE. For some odd reason backing up is very slow (55mb/s).

The same Veeam 9 test box backing hyper-v was doing 250mb/s. Anything I can do to fix my issue.

Thank you

Can you describe your setup more?

Things like, if your Veeam server a physical server or a VM, if physical is it SAN connected and if not do you have a VM that's setup as a Veeam proxy?

Also, what is listed at the bottleneck when the job completes?

Initial guess is you have a physical Veeam server and no SAN connection to it, and also no VM based proxy server setup so it's using NBD mode to do the backup. The simple solution is to either create a new VM and install the Veeam Proxy role on it (and remove it from the server) or connect the Veeam server directly to the SAN

Also are you talking about full backups or incremental backups? What do the job statistics say? What is the bottleneck and as Dave asked which backup method is being used (network, appliance or san)?
