Impossible to restore configuration

Post by pantoufle »

My installation was old, and was upgraded on each new release.

today, it is Veeam 8 U3 installed on Windows 2008...

it's time to think about an OS upgrade. (2012r2)

during Moving of my Veeam Services from old to new server ( following Veeam KB 1889 )

i have an error during configuration restore.

Code: Select all

3/8/2016 5:26:39 PM Connecting to database VeeamBackup
3/8/2016 5:26:40 PM Error Reading configuration backup
3/8/2016 5:26:40 PM Error Restoring configuration catalog (0% done)
3/8/2016 5:26:41 PM Error Invalid object name 'Track_changes'.
3/8/2016 5:26:41 PM Error Cannot read configuration backup.
3/8/2016 5:26:41 PM Warning Failed to restore configuration
3/8/2016 5:26:41 PM Warning Veeam Backup and Replication has been stopped

and this problem occur on 3 of my 4 Veeam infra :-(

i hope it is due to an old bug present in my database.

Case id = 01721232

does exist a tool to check Veeam configuration ?

Hi pantoufle,

To clarify, does your newly installed VBR server have the same build number with the original server, for example does it have the latest update installed (v8 u3)?

Hi,

Configuration restore error is due to an old "no more used" table in our Veeam Database ( "Track_changes").
probably not "dropped" during upgrade from Veeam 4 to 5 ( said support ).

veeam enginneer give me some instructions and all is working fine.

i don't know if i can give those instructions here ;-)

Many Thanks.

We do not encourage our customers to manually perform such database changes, so they'd better contact support directly for assistance, if required.

While support doesn't encourage customers making these changes I'll post the procedure for those encountering this issue who may not have an active support contract.

1. Open SQL Management Studio
2. Connect to your Veeam SQL instance (varies by original install options chosen)
3. Backup the VeeamBackup database to your preferred location.
4. Expand the VeeamBackup database in Object Explorer
5. Expand the Tables sub item in Object Explorer
6. Locate the Track_Changes table
7. Right click the Track_Changes table and choose Delete
8. Re-run the Configuration backup to capture the change
9. Move the configuration backup to the new server and restore/migrate as per support documents.

The only caveat is that you must logon to SQL using an account with SA level access.
