Daily Replication = Full Every Time (CBT Enabled)

Post by lbj713 »

Hi, we are seeing an odd behavior with replication jobs.

We are replicating a virtual machine from a source ESX host to a destination ESX host. Both sides are running ESX 4.0 and have CBT enabled, we even verified this in the job logs.

After the first initial replication, the jobs seem to keep replicating the full amount of data each night vs. only the changed data. For instance, if a 20GB job took 2 hours on the initial sync, it continues to take 2 hours on subsequent passes.

We have tried to keep the restore points to 1 and 2 for this job, but see the same results.

Can someone shed some light on this?

Hi, what job processing mode do you use, where you Veeam server is installed, and what is the size of VRB files produced by daily runs?

We are using vStorage API Network mode.

The Veeam server is running on the target side:

ESX/VC Source -> IP WAN -> Veeam Server, ESX/VC Target

A current ls -alh shows no .vrb files in the VM's "VeeamBackup" directory:

Now this is really strange, as the absence of VRB files indicates that you did not have a single incremental replication pass completed yet. I cannot imagine how such behavior can be achieved. It would probably be best if you open support case and provide full job logs so that our technical support could investigate this deeper.

We have had a support case open for 2 weeks now, with no straight answer, that is why I am trying the forums.

Any help you could give us?

I cannot assist on technical issues like these unfortunately. But in all cases, no one can possibly help you better than our support and development team (which support has direct access to). What is your support case number?
