VSS Question

Post by abhatop »

Hi,

A question regarding vss itegration. must my backupserver (with veeam) have IP access to the VM to work correctly ?
It´s because i have the following situation: one vcenter server with veeam - many different vms on different subnets - because of policy restrictions the backup server has no direct ip access to some servers. one of these servers is running windows 2003 with exchange 2003. when i do a backup the snapshot is fine - but it seems that VSS is not working, because veeam can not connect to the administrative share.
any ideas how to resolve this without adding these servers to the management(backup) lan ?

thanks in advance..

Hi Manuel,

In this case I would recommend you to use VMware Tools quiescence with pre-freeze and post-thaw scripts, this option doesn't require direct VM connection. You may search the forums for more information on that.

On the other hand, the upcoming v5 release which is aimed to late Q3 will not require direct network connection to guest VM in order for Veeam VSS to work.

Hope it helps!
