Data Domain and Scale-Out Repository

Post by kdorsainvil »

We are running 3 Data Domain With several repositories on them. I am thinking of utilizing scale-out repository to better balance the the storage and such. However we using the Data Domain to replicate to our DR site.

Is anyone using the Data Domain and Scale-out? Would I still be able to replicate through the DD, when using scale-out?

Hi,
Would I still be able to replicate through the DD, when using scale-out?
Yes you can replicate through DD even if it is a part of Scale-Out repository. On the other hand, even though DD replication will be faster, backup copy job is more reliable and manageable.

Thank you.

If you want to have you backups copied to your DR site then yes, I'd stick with a backup copy job for that. You can also spin up a replica from backup, if needed.

Thank you.

When using the Data Domain, for scale out repository, are you seeing faster backup times or better performance?

It is going to be exactly the same as with regular repository (assuming all the other settings are the same). Scale-out repository shines when it has multiple independent storage devices added, by leveraging total IO capacity of the entire storage pool.
