Failed to Perform VEEAM VSS Freeze

Post by mlarsh »

I just VMware Converted my Windows 2003 Terminal Server. It was an older box and had just lost a drive from a mirror. The conversion went without any issues and came online in my new ESXi 4.1 host. I am not using vCenter Server at this moment, I just created a job for the virtual machine. As of this moment it is backing up for the first time, even though when it started I received this message:

Failed to Perform VEEAM VSS Freeze: VM Guest OS State is "Not Running".

The machine is running and backing up. I have opened a ticket, but thought the forums would be good too. Ticket 530267

Hello Matthew,

I'm pretty sure that the VM is running, however if you take a look at the Managed Object Browser (MOB) for the VM summary, you will see that it shows wrong status of "Not Running". I would recommend to open a support ticket with VMware on this issue.

You may obtain instructions how to drill down through MOB to VM status via our technical support team.

Thanks!

I would try uninstalling and then re-installing VMware Tools.

The uninstall and re-install of the VMware Tools worked. I did a backup test and no errors. Thanks, Gostev.
