Veeam waking up even unused repositories from hibernation

Post by HMwkr »

Hello All

I have four NAS boxes at our remote backup site, containing Veeam repositories. Veeam is waking them all up from hibernation every four hours or so - even the one which is the target of no jobs, and contains no backup files.

Are any of you successfully hibernating your NAS boxes? Is this a reasonable aim?

Notes:
- Veeam is v9, on Hyper-V, NAS boxes are Synology DS412+
- the remote server is only a WAN accelerator and repository host, no other Veeam function installed
- the NAS boxes report the machine and username and share being accessed to wake them, from which I know Veeam on the remote server is responsible
- most days the NAS boxes are accessed for an hour or so, hence wanting to hibernate them for the other 23 hours
- I removed VeeamONE some time ago - this was keeping the NAS boxes awake constantly

Thanks in anticipation

William, this could be due to periodic rescan made by Veeam B&R console.

Thank you.

I would have found this for myself if I had searched the user guide for "4 hours" instead of "four hours" <sigh>

Is there a way to tell Veeam "this repository hibernates, only wake it up when you need it or when I tell you" ? ( I searched the user guide for "hibernat" :) )

If not, would this have to be a feature request - and do you think many Veeam users have hibernating repositories?

Regards

There's no such a granular setting, however, you can change the automatic infrastructure rescan period with the help of the following registry value under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication:

Code: Select all

VolumesDiscover_Periodically_Hours (REG_DWORD)
Default value: 4 (in hours)
Though keep in mind that this affects the entire infrastructure rescan.
