We are running an SQL 2014 Cluster with Availability Groups, with one of the DBs in the AG having about 500GB. Main problem we are facing now with Veeam 9 is the restore time for single DBs.
Restoring an AG DB means using the Veeam Wizard involves the following steps:
1) Mounting the backup file
2) Copying the DB files to the active SQL node
3) Attach the DB
4) Make an SQL Backup to a temporary location
5) Copy the previously created backup file to the other AG nodes
6) Restore the secondary nodes from the previously created backup file
7) Apply transaction logs to bring the secondary nodes in-sync
To shorten the duration of a restore, we would like to have an option to restore a DB from an AG to a single DB node, meaning skipping the process of adding the DB to the AG. This would reduce the restore duration significantly for larger DBs and would allow to provide access a lot earlier. Adding the DB to the AG would be done later by the DBA manually.
Currently with the full restore into the AG, we are not able to fulfill the RTO requirements using Veeam!
