Creating clone VM from backup

Looking for some help if possible.

What would be the best process of creating a clone VM from a backup in order to use as a test server and leaving the original VM intact and operational?

You can either fire it up in an isolated virtual lab with the help of SureBackup or just perform full VM recovery to a new location without powering the VM on and then change its network settings so that it doesn't affect it's production counterpart.

Perfect. This is what I'm trying at the moment but wanted to get some second opinions while waiting for it to restore.

This is the common way of doing this. Do you need this VM to run for a considerable time, btw?

Potentially going to use it as a test server for one of our key application so we can test changes etc on this before applying them to the main one. At first it's just so we can get some information off that was deleted accidentally a few days back.

Restoring the VM is going to be easier than reinstalling the app, restoring the DB and configuring it to enable us to get the info out. Is there a better option for short term \ long term restores?

For short-term you can use Instant Recovery, where VM is running directly from the backup file. For the full-fledged (though completely isolated from production) test environment, SureBackup is the best solution.
