Hyper-V/Cluster VM - Backup possible?

Post by r2k »

Hi folks,
we plan to move our single systems to a clustered system.

The final environment is a SQL-Cluster (SQL 2012/ Windows 2012 R2 ), an Exchange Server (2008 R2, Exchange 2010 in a DAG) and a file-server/printserver Cluster (Windows 2012 R2). These "virtual clusters" will be running under a Hyper-V 2012 R2 Cluster. We plan to use shared vhdx as cluster share for the vm guestes.

So my questions are:
[*]Are shared vhdx supported in this case (i believe yes, based on the answers)
[*]Is a backup of a 2-Node File-Server Cluster possible?
[*]Is a proper bacukup of a 2-node DAG Cluster possible? (i believe yes, based on here: https://www.veeam.com/blog/how-to-backu ... ation.html)
[*]Is a proper bacukup of a 2-node SQL Cluster possible?

many thanks for your help and your experience.

best regards
Marco

VMs that have shared vhdx can be backed up in a crash-consistent state only. Also please note that RDM virtual disks in physical mode, independent disks, and disks connected via in-guest iSCSI initiator are not supported, and are skipped from processing automatically. Network shares and mount points targeted to 3rd party storage devices are also skipped as these volumes/disks are not visible in the VM configuration file.

Thank you.
