Feature request - split backup files
Hi,
I need to split my backup files in files of less than 2GB.
Other backup softwares give the opportunity to select backup files size (to export en CD, DVD...) : it would be nice if VEB also give this opportunity...
Regards,
Christophe

Hi Christophe,
Thanks for your feature request! Do you copy your backup files to some other location that has a limitation of 2 GBs per each file? If yes, then what's your other destination?
Thanks!

Hi Christophe,
Thanks for the clarification - request makes sense. I wonder, if you are looking for an option to perform a Bare Metal Recovery from OneDrive storage as well or you store some backups locally for this purpose.

Bump.
+1 for need to split backup files. In my case, to upload to OneDrive.
Otherwise, This is the best free backup out there. Better than some of the paid apps I've worked with.

Thank you Will. By the way, are you using the OneDrive for business or regular edition?

Hello and welcome to the community Chris,
Can you elaborate what locations you are referring to? USB drives? Thanks!

Re: Feature request - split backup files
Hello,
ahh ok. Sorry. I would like to copy the backup files from one NAS to another, that is 50km away. Between the two locations there is a slow VPN connection thourgh the internet. The copy session breakes sometimes and the job must start at the beginning. Some backups are so big, that it is not possible to copy them in one session. Manual splitting with zip-tools is not an option. This must work automatically.
Thanks a lot.

Re: Feature request - split backup files
Thanks for details, noted! Have you considered to use Robocopy as a temporary solution to sync backups between NAS boxes?

Hi
sorry for resurrecting old thread,
we are using sync to nas and sync to onedrive business and the ability to split backup files is needed.
onedrive business as 15gb size limit, and copy to nas over internet is hard with big files....
think that feature can be implemented in near future?
thank you

Hello Carl,
Have you tried the direct backup to OneDrive? It does not require backup chunking at all.

[MERGED] [Feature Request] Size limit for backup files
Hi,
i'm using backup agent for backup to nas and sync to Tresorit Business Cloud.
The file limit of tresorit is 20 gb. My backup file is 80 gb....
I like both, backup agent and tresorit and won't change the backup program.
Think that feature can be implemented in near future?
Thank you

Re: [Feature Request] Size limit for backup files
Hi,
Would you elaborate on that, please? Is that a limit for the total volume of files, or that's a limit for a single file? That is, do you expect Veeam to split large backup files into smaller chunks, or something else?
Thanks!

Re: [Feature Request] Size limit for backup files
Hi,
it's the limit of a single file and the *.vbk is 84 gb.
Other backup programs can split large backup files into smaller chunks like *1.vbk, *2.vbk... with a size 4,5 gb (DVD) 25 gb (Bluray) or 20 gb (tresorit) or other limits.
Thanks

Re: Feature request - split backup files
We also consider to replace Backup Exec with Veeam Standard at a customer site.
A part of the job consists of copying the finished backup files to RDX media on a Tandberg Quikstation. One 3 TB disk, one 2 TB disk in the pool. Backup Exec takes care of the proper backup file distribution.
With Veeam I now have a massive 4 TB file and cannot distribute it easily and accessible to the two RDX disks.
So add one vote to the feature request.
Best greetings from Germany
Olaf
