Feature Request - delete restore points

Post by mattiamigliorati »

Hi,
I don't know if this such of kind feature, but many times I struggle with repository full with no easy way to solve the problem..
I just found this topic (quite old) about the problem..
veeam-backup-replication-f2/how-veeam-d ... 13427.html

I think that a great feature, instead of manually delete backup chains from the repository, is the ability to delete the N oldest restore point from repository.
I think like a feature that delete, as an example, the oldest 5 restore points, letting Veeam to struggle with job chain rebuild on repostory..

This is make sense to someone else?

Thanks

Hi Mattia,
Have you considered decreasing number of restore points to get rid of the oldest restore points instead of deleting the newer once?
There is a workaround available, but I would just change the job settings to shrink number of backups.
Thanks!

Hi Shestakov,
the main problem is that when the problem occur the repository is full.
This block any backup job and there is no way to free up space

This is the point:
Veeam let me to delete restore points from repository, but I must remove them by VM, not by the N oldest

If the solution is to go to the repository and delete the oldest backup chain and do a rescan, I'll take this as the solution for the problem

Let's confirm please

You can go for the workaround, but remember that you deal with chains and deleting oldest restore points will do newer useless in case of forward incremental chains and vice versa for reverse incrementals. Feel free to contact support team for assistance.
I would also suggest to use monitoring tools such as Veeam ONE to be notify beforehand and avoid situations like this one.
Thanks
