vSphere vs Direct Host

Post by hucmat »

Hi all,

I have a site that is running a small 3 host VMware installation. The client doesn't want to spend the $ on any kind of shared storage, so all the VMs are running on local storage attached to each ESXi host. All the hosts are managed through vCenter to give a single pane of glass management view. vCenter is deployed via the VMware vSphere Appliance on 1 of the hosts.

I've deployed a Veeam proxy on each host, but I'm not sure on the best way to configure the hosts in Veeam. Is there any performance difference between adding the ESXi hosts directly to Veeam versus adding the vCenter server and accessing the hosts through this? I'd prefer to point Veeam to the vCenter so jobs can track VMs across hosts (should they move).

Is there a best practice for connecting Veeam in this kind of situation?

Cheers,
Matt

No, it doesn`t matter how add them in terms of performance.

There is a best practices book with lots of useful information. Please take a look.
Thanks!
