Support for Microsoft SQL Server 2016

Post by ben.clayton »

Hello,

We are in the midst of testing SQL Server 2016 in our environment. We are currently running SQL Server 2008r2. I opened a case with support, case# 01820899, asking if Veeam supported using SQL Server 2016 for the configuration database as well as support for backing up databases housed on a SQL Server 2016 host. Support recommended that I post my question here.

When will Veeam support SQL Server 2016? Both for housing the Configuration Database and also for backing up databases housed on a SQL 2016 host. Is there a road map for this new version and Veeam?

Thanks!

I have SQL 2016 Enterprise on my local workstation and our Veeam is current 9.5 but when I go to use the client it is looking for SQL 2014 and I thought Veeam 9.5 was supposed to take of this? Thank you for your response.

Hi Brian and welcome to the community.

If i got your question right, you would like to use SQL 2016 which is fully supported by Veeam B&R 9.5, so install it manually and change DB connection settings by using the DBConfig Utility.

Thanks!

Hi and thank you but this is the situation: I want to run a Veeam Client from my desktop to connect to VeeamOne. Because I have SQL Server 2016 Enterprise on my local desktop (I am the old DBA) the Veeam Client will not install and says that I need SQL 2014. So I cannot get the client to install (even after applying a patch that I had read about). My appologies that I was not clear enough on the first pass.

Hi Brian,

What's the exact error message you see when trying to install Veeam ONE Client? Be aware that neither Veeam ONE Client, nor Veeam B&R Console require SQL Server.

Thanks!
