Feature Request :

Post by BkpsNecEvil »

Please add a backup job settings option to skip or wait for VM's that are in the middle of a migration. As it stands now, if a VM is in the middle of a migration, such as a datastore migration, then the backkup job just sits and waits for the snapshot creation to happen. So if there is a large VM that is being migrated and may take several hours, this job will not continue and if any other jobs only are scheduled to run after this job completes, then they will never run on top of that. So in this instance, if your backup jobs schema is setup in a specific fashion, all your backups could be put on hold until this one migration is completed. On top of that, there is no notification of this happening so if this occurs and you are not watching your backups constantly, you will never know your backups are not happening.

Thank you for considering this request.

Camron, thanks for the feedback. Just wanted to pay your attention at parallel processing available in Veeam B&R that allows other jobs/VMs to be processed in parallel even if there's some huge VM that requires considerable time to complete (provided there're enough resources for that).

Understood. I do have Parallel Processing enabled, but if I setup several VM's to be backed up via one single Backup Job for deduplication reasons, then Parallel Processing isn't going to help. Every VM in the job will get backed up, except for the one that is currently being migrated, but then the job will continue to sit on hold until that migration is finished. So if this is going to be a long migration, which a VM with several terabytes in size can take a long while to migrate, then no backups are going to run until that migration finishes.
