4Kn drives in a repository?

Post by jronnblom »

Hi,

Are 4Kn drives supported in a repository? Are 512e supported?

What would the performance be with a 4Kn vs a 512n drive?

All drived that can be accessed by repository operating system are supported.
What would the performance be with a 4Kn vs a 512n drive?
That depends on too many factors to make any estimates, so I believe that's a subject to test.

Thanks

Raising this question again.

Has anybody any experience with these drives?

I've not done any performance test, but seems that if file systems are correctly aligned to 4k there may be an improvement of some sort, but then it also comes down to the specific model used and the OS. Only remember for Veeam repositories, to use Windows 8 or 2012 at least or linux at least 2.6.31. Some interesting considerations about alignment here: http://www.mbx.com/community-blog-posts ... will-soon/
I've not seen any performance comparison around.

Hi,

We're waiting for the release of Veeam 9.5 and will be using Windows Server 2016 probably with ReFS.

Atleast when you buy a new Dell server you get to chose which drives you want. 512e or 4Kn.
