Linux Vm snapshot Error

Post by lucaam » 1 person likes this post

Hi,
i have an issue with a linux vm(Ubuntu 14.04). Veeam Backup 6.5 and esxi 5.1 ; open-vm-tools installed(also try reinstalling) on vm and running; the vm backup working fine with vmware tools Quiesce option enable. After vm was rebooted backup are now failing with:
"Creating VM snapshot Error: An error occurred while quiescing the virtual machine. See the virtual machine's event log for details".
On syslog at time jobs run, i find: warning] [vmbackup] Error freezing filesystems.
[ warning] [guestinfo] Failed to get vmstats.
I Have try to enable vmtools log but log is full of" [ debug] [vmtoolsd] Setting option 'broadcastIP' to '1' " and nothing more.
Trying taking Quiesced snapshot from vsphere client, require a certain amount of time but snapshot is taken; removing snapshot is immediate. the other windows vms backup working fine
Do You have any ideas guys?
Thanks a Lot,
Luca

I would suggest to use Veeam Linux processing mechanism rather than vm tools quiescence, it's usually more reliable.

Hi Luca,
Thanks for reply.
So i will disable vmware tools quiesce :)
This virtual machine have a really small database and plain cobol files only, so i'm too concerned with application consinstency.
Sorry, what do you mean with " Veaam Linux processing mechanism" ? For Linux generally i'll put OS credentials in Guest processing, only when enabling indexing, i'm not aware of any other options(except pre-freeze custom scripts),
Thank You,
Luca
