Backup copy job with WAN acceleration

Post by eltonhsu »

Hi,
2 questions:
1. Does backup copy job share the same methodology of having the same OS VM grouped into one job, like how it's suggested for backup jobs?
2. I have the exact same copy of backup files (even the same file/folder structure) on both primary NAS and DR NAS, but nothing is shown on my backup copy job > mapping backups on the target DR NAS. Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Elton

Hi Elton,
1) Yes, if you don`t use per-VM backup option and/or hardware deduplication on target.
2) Do you mean backup copy job settings? What`s your goal, by the way? Do you want to leverage mapping or just check if VBR sees the backups?
Thanks!

Nikita,
I would like to run backup copy job to remote site NAS with WAN acceleration.
I think I figured out part of the reason but not all. It seemed like the remote NAS copy of the backups were listed in backup (encrypted). After I entered the password for each one, I can see some items allowing me to map but not the backups I was looking for. Not sure what other reasons may cause this?

Thanks,
Elton

Elton, mapping is not a mandatory condition, it`s just an option used to speed up the first run of backup copy job.
Here is a description how to implement it.
Encryption should not cause any problems.
