Managing backup with VEEAM on LTO6 ROBOT From Virtual

Post by sababou »

Dear All,
Can someone confirm me if it is possible to manage backup on an HP LTO6 Robot from a windows 2008 virtual Machine.
I heart that it works only on the physical machine.

Regards.

Hi,

Yes, you can install VBR on Windows 2008R2 VM to control backup to tape that is connected to some other machine, however it will be tricky to connect tape robot to the VM directly.

Thanks

If the tape library is connected via iSCSI, you can use the Windows iSCSI initiator within the VM to "connect" to the library and then make the VM a tape server within Veeam Backup & Replication.

Hi sababou,

You can deploy a tape server (or tape proxy) component at the physical server with direct connection to your tape devices, while your VBR server remains a virtual machine. That should do the trick.
