Is volume resize on restore available

I googled this a number of times and I keep seeing that restoring to a dissimilar hard drive via a Volume Shrink would be available in v1.1. I'm on 1.5 and I cannot do a manual restore from a 500GB drive to a 250GB drive, despite only 70GB being used up on the 500GB drive.

Is there anyway to make this restore WITHOUT resizing the partition of the machine being backed up.
