[MERGED] Re:Endpoint backup offline with recovery CD
yes, it would be nice, on servers without something to install. If a server is down and no open files are open to do a backup.

Re: Feature Request - Create Backup from Recovery Media
I would also love to see this as a feature... Currently, we have to jump through hoops with BartPE and Acronis True Image to create an image of a computer. It would be amazing if the Veeam Recovery Media could actually create images.

Re: Feature Request - Create Backup from Recovery Media
Another use case, which I didn't seem to read in this thread. Backing up Windows Server 2008 or earlier! If backups could be performed from the recovery media, you've just made VEB compatible with all [windows?] operating systems!
I recently had a Windows Server 2003 (yes, I know, retired, considered dead by Microsoft) that I needed to backup, but I couldn't even install VEB. VEB rules by the way, as in... It's my go-to imaging/backup solution. Ever since Microsoft dropped Home Server with bare metal restore, I've found nothing as good as VEB to replace that functionality.

Re: Feature Request - Create Backup from Recovery Media
This would be definitely a good Feature.
We often have Computers that do not boot any more.
Then we first make an Offline Backup before we Recover the PC to restore existing data which was on the PC afterwards.
Also sometimes we have PCs that we do not want to "touch" too much, because of critical Status and so it is better to take an Offline Backup rather than install the Backup Software first.
We used this Feature very much with Symantec System Recovery, which has it. But now we are Veeam Fans and want to get rid of Symantec (Veritas) products.
So guys this Feature would be great.

Count me in on offline backup from the VEB Recovery Media. Like many others, we would like to complete backups of non-booting systems and/or systems we'd rather not touch too much.

Also second this request.
When triaging a failing system it's nice to do a complete backup without having to boot the OS which is unstable. This was a MAJOR reason why Norton/Symantec Ghost was so popular for so, so long.

+1 for this request. Still have to use other backup tools to achieve clean standalone backups outside the running OS.

Re: Feature Request - Create Backup from Recovery Media
+1 for offline backups.
My use case would be a project for which we need to recall 250+ laptops, backup the entire contents, wipe the local hard drive and re-image the machine. In case an end user forgot to backup something important, we could rely on backup images. The major benefit over something like USMT or any other form of online backup tool would be speed, simplicity and reliability.

Re: Feature Request - Create Backup from Recovery Media
Would also like this, the main usage is as a technician here.
Creating a backup before working on/reinstalling a computer, just to be safe, trying to be as little invasive as possible.
It would also get used on manufacturer supplied machines with very specific and very expensive (research/measuring) software. In some cases, I think the user doesn't even have admin access.
If it had that, it seems it would make top of the list. WinPE + free + easy to use, hard to beat.

Would like to +1 as well.
Shadowprotect had (or maybe still has, we don't use SP anymore) a product for this, it wasn't part of the recovery image but a separate product called Shadow protect technician which ran from a licensed usb drive. It was not cheap but it was very handy and clonezilla is a poor substitute when imaging to dissimilar hardware etc where Veeam already is pretty strong.

For forensics purposes, this would be very useful (probably run into issues with bitlockered/encrypted drives doing this, though...)

Re: Feature Request - Create Backup from Recovery Media
@Steve Kratz,
You have a valid point. If the drive is bitlockered we won't be able to read the data. However, if you have the bitlocker key to unlock it (and I assume this is a corporate environment so...) would that be enough so you can take the backup as an administrator? (That would also block unjustified use of the ISO since only the admin or technician would be able to do it...)
Just a thought, feedback is welcome

[MERGED] Backup via recovery media
Hello,
one short question:
is it possible to create a backup with the recovery media?
my situation:
I often have to test IPCs with different software installations and/or windows installations with special drivers or programs.
I'd like to create backup before the first windows start.
So I could always start again with the original setup.
Sorry for my stupid question.
At the moment I'm using veeam endpoint backup free. But I didn't find this feature.
Is there a workaround via the commandline?
Thanks and kind regards,
Houns

Re: Feature Request - Create Backup from Recovery Media
Another vote for full and file level backups from the recovery media to USB, network share or booting from WDS like environment.
Icing on the cake would be Windows, Linux and OSX support.
Use case: in a remote location with no repository access. Or factory image stored on the local hard drive on separate partition.
Thanks for listening Veeam!

I know it's my topic, but just wanted to say that I'm still watching it.
At the moment I sometimes install Veeam just for one-time-backups

[MERGED] Offline Windows backup
I apologize if this has already been discussed or requested. I had a situation yesterday where one of my remote users came into my office with an Windows laptop that would not boot (BSOD). His backups where at home on his external USB drive, which is fine since they shouldn't travel with their backups because of the risk of everything being stolen or lost.
Until he got back home to do a Veeam restore I figured I would just backup his files and do a fresh Windows install and then restore his files. The problem is, from what I can see, you can't do a Veeam backup of a physical machine that will not boot. The recovery media has the ability to do a restore, so why not enable the ability to do a backup as well? I do understand their are some considerations, like Bitlocker encryption being a problem, but in this case the user didn't have Bitlocker on.
Please advise if I am missing something or if this is already a feature request and/or in the roadmap for the next release.

Hey Clint and Mike and Vitaliy! +1 from me on this feature request, just to add to your list of those very interested
New Dell Precision 5520 laptop, would love to image it before first boot, but oh so many other use cases too.

Re: Feature Request - Create Backup from Recovery Media
Ghost/Livestate/System Recovery/Veritas has been able to do this since 1996.
It's a big reason why we haven't switched our 500 clients over.
