"Restore" not available in Backup Browser

Post by UT2015 »

Hi,

we are using B&R 9.0.0.1491 to backup a virtual environment. To backup some more physical servers, we are using Veeam Endpoint Backup. Those backups are stored in the central Veeam repository.

When trying to restore guest files to the servers backed up with Endpoint, the menu entry "Restore" is grayed out in the Backup Browser. It is only possible to copy the files to the local Veeam server.

This is very annoying. Why is a direct restore to the server not possible? When copying files to the local Veeam server and then to the original server, information like Windows ACL, owner of the files etc. is lost/changed.

Best regards,

This is normal behaviour. As Endpoint is more aimed at laptops and desktops which could be on the move it can be harder to perform the restore to the correct endpoint, even if they are in an office and DHCP is being used. If I understand correct you are more asking this as a feature request to be added?

So what should be used to backup physical servers with B+R if not VEB?

Currently VEB supports Windows 2008 R2 and 2012 (R2) as well so you can perfectly use it (as you are doing now). The only thing it can't do is make application aware backups by default (requires native tools from the specific software). However you can restore all the files from the VEB backup on the physical server directly to preserve ownership of files etc, just not via the restore GUI in VBR.

...which would actually be much more comfortable.
