Post by Troy »

Does Veeam have a best practices recommendations for database maintenance on its own SQL databases? I have been unable to find anything that really has this information.

Troy, I would suggest following best practices from Microsoft for SQL database maintenance. Regarding Veeam configuration database, you won't see a significant grow for either the database or transaction logs. Hope it helps!

Our configuration database is very small and does not require any special maintenance.

Albert, you need to have Veeam configuration db up and running to operate VBR normally, though if you need to perform an urgent restore, you may use an extract utility or install a new backup server, import the backup files and perform a restore.

[MERGED]: Veeam Backup SQL Server DB maintenance

Post by albertwt »

Hi All,

After reading http://veeampdf.s3.amazonaws.com/new/ve ... new_en.pdf on page 7, there is new feature for SQl Database maintenance:
Configuration database maintenance job. A system job has been added that will
periodically optimize configuration databases, including updating its statistics and
defragmenting indices
So I wonder how to set the frequency and check it if it is already applied or not ?

The SQL Server is located on the separate physical box than the Veeam Backup server.

Hi,
So I wonder how to set the frequency and check it if it is already applied or not ?
It has a predefined schedule to run once a week. Also it starts every time you restart Veeam service. As it is purely a system tool and is not supposed to be controlled its behaviour can be changed only via registry keys. May I ask you why do you want to change the frequency?

Thank you.

Hi PTide,

I just wanted to know that if the SQL maintenance job has been implemented or not because I already got the existing SQL maintenance job since Veeam V7.0 for all DB in the SQL server 2012 box.

I'm using the free DB maintenance solution from Ola Hallengren. Just let it run on a daily basis for best DB performance.
