Restore target?

Post by hyvokar »

Hi!

I just gave VEB a spin in a real life environment. I was running out of space on my system disk, so I installed VEB and backed up the system volume on a network share, installed a larger disk and started restoring.

The procedure was pretty straight forward, but when the restore was running on 10% or so it hit me. VEB never asked me *where to* I want restore the data? I have other disks attached to this computer also, including 4 disk raid array.

How does VEB choose, where it restores the data, and is there a risk of overwriting existing data disks?

One more thing, would it be possible in restore process to create a new volume and restore data on that volume?
With bigger disk I now have :

[300MB recovery partition] [100MB EFI system partition] [237GB C-drive] [450MB Recovery partition] [227,29 GB Unallocated]

So I cannot straight away increase the size of my C-drive

Thanks DS2, will try that next time.

I went ahead and resized the partitions with easeus partition master.

Hi hyvokar,

Original disk layout is automatically applied while restoring to the same or larger disk. ds2 is right - if you need to expand the disk you can use resize option while manually allocating the volumes one by one
