Considerations when physically moving tape drives to new lib

Post by pkelly_sts »

I have the luxury of having a reasonable amount of tape hardware and right now on one site I have two 24-slot tape libraries, one with an LTO-4 & an LTO-6 drive, and the other with just a single LTO-6 drive.

We also have a 48-slot chassis and I'd like to consolidate the tape drive into this Chassis, but I'm well aware that Veeam very much ties libraries to Media pools etc. so I'd like to know what's the best way to move things around without risking losing Media Pool memberships etc.?

Add a chassis to an existing global media pool, physically move tapes to it, inventory them and you're good to go. Thanks.

Thanks, but just to clarify I'll actually be moving the *drives* as well as the tapes to it, is it clever enough to recognise the drives by serial or will they show up as dupes?

Theoretically such scenario should not break anything. Though, it has not been tested thoroughly. Thus, do it cautiously. Thanks.
