Feature Request: Media Name of Local Storage in Report

Post by mausger »

Hi Guys

When using Local Storage as Backup Destination, it would be great to see the Name of the used Backup Media (e.g. USB-Drive or RDX Volume Name) in the Backup Report Mail or maybe also in the GUI.

We often have many different Media to Rotating Media.
For example 4 RDX Cartridges which we all Name different: Backup Media 1, Backup Media 2, ...

Sometimes the customers then don´t know if another employee already changed the Media for that day.
Then it occurs that the Media is changed again, an the Rotation is a mess.
When the Volume Name or any other unique Identifier of the Media would be visible in the Report, then the customer could check the last backup Report, which media was last used and insert the correct Media for the next backup.

Also for restores it would be easier to see which Backup Media is required to restore files from the Media that was used e.g. 10 days ago.
By the way it would also be great in the GUI not to see only "2 Days ago, 4 Days ago, ..." but also a Date, because this is sometimes easier to find the correct Backup for a restore than counting days back from today.

Thanks Guys.
Great work for now, but there are still many great Features that are waiting to get implemented.

Hello and thank you for the feedback Martin,

I am curious, does the RDX system has a generic name in windows disk manager, or name changes every time you swap the drive?

Hi

The RDX System does not have a generic Name in Disc Manager.
If you Change Cartridges, it´s just like you change normal USB Harddrives.
So you can give every RDX Cartridge a different Volume Name, e.g. "RDX Cartridge 1", "RDX Cartridge 2" and so on.

If the Volume Name of the Backup Destination Volume would be noted somewhere in the Backup log, then it would be easy to identify the used Media.

Also the RDX cartridge does have a unique ID, since TandbergData Backup Shows and uses it (they Show which media was used for backups and which media ist currently inserted), but i don´t know if you can read this ID.

But in My Opinion it would be enough to use the Volume Name of the Partition. Everybody can give each Media a Volume Name as needed.
