Repair and Remove Dialog Won't Go Away

Post by robertades22 »

I've installed the latest version of VEB on my Western Digital DX4000 running Windows Storage Server 2008 R2. Each time I boot the program, I can repair or remove the program. No matter which option I select, I end up in the same spot. I can never get completely into the program.

Also, how can I bring back the history of the backups stored on an external USB drive? I'm not looking to restore the backups to the DX4000, I simply want Veeam to pick up where it left off.

Thank you,
Robert Ades

Hi Robert,

Is the Control Panel operational? Can you open a support case?

Do you mean the Control Panel from within the Veeam program? No, because I cannot get past the dialog to enter the program.

Thanks. I’ll ask support team to reach you via email address specified in the forum profile, is that ok?

Sure. I did receive a generic welcome email. Not sure if I need to respond to it or not.

Dima, do you have any idea when someone from Support will be reaching out to me? I haven't heard from anyone yet.

Thank you,
Robert

I managed to get this going by adjusting the security settings on the unit. I won't need a follow up phone call from Support.

Can you please remind me how to setup a USB restore thumb drive?

Also, if the backup interval is set to Daily, what is meant by "Back up no more often than every X hour"?

Thank you,
Robert

Robert,
For the USB thumb drive, are you looking to use that for the backup destination, or are you trying to create bootable media to do a recovery?

As for the Backup no more often setting, if you are setting a scheduled job to run once daily, I do not worry about setting that. If you set your backup job to happen at a specific event like lock, logoff, or when backup target is connected then that setting comes into play. If you set it to backup no more often than 1 hour, then if you backup at 1 and lock your computer at 2:15 it would run another backup if you had that setting configured. It applies to the event based settings, not the daily.

Hope that clears it up!

Cheers!

Bootable media for a recovery.

The recommended way is to have the USB drive in, and run the create bootable media wizard. This will automatically create the bootable USB drive. This procedure will delete everything on the USB stick, so make sure it does not contain anything you need.
Mike wrote a piece on it Here
