basic questions

Post by kenw232 »

In backup and replication free version where is the Help | About? I can't find it anywhere.

And when it installed it opened some ports 9392 9393 and 9401. Is it ok to block these? My machine is directly on the net and these ports are open. I would like to block them but concerned it will interfere with Veeams operation? Is it ok to block?

Menu (top left) -> Help.

There ports are necessary for proper VB&R work; so, please, take a look.

Thanks.

There is no Menu -> Help in the top left. Do you mean this thing? I'm in an RDP session, I can't click it. it does nothing. In fact a dialog box box flashes but disappears and I can't even read it.

Yes, this is the menu Vladimir is talking about. You can install Veeam B&R console locally and connect it to remote backup server, to avoid RDP connection.

Why can't it just work like every other program in existence? There has to be another way to check the version number...

Not sure why it doesn't work in your case. Do you have default display settings on this machine?

You can check version of some executable file in the Veeam B&R installation folder (for example, Veeam.Backup.Manager.exe) - right-click it, open it's properties, and select the Details tab.

Its just an RFP connection at 1450 x 900 or so. I checked the version for the .exe. That works too.

The image you've provided cannot be opened. So, we cannot comment on why menu button doesn't work for you. However, you might want to check whether you run default DPI scale.

Additionally, you can check exact product version via PowerShell:

Code: Select all

    $Path = "Path to Veeam.Backup.Core.dll" # Path to Veeam.Backup.Core.dll by default it's located in C:\Program Files\Veeam\Backup and Replication\Backup\Veeam.Backup.Core.dll
    $Item = Get-Item -Path $Path
    $Item.VersionInfo.ProductVersion
    $item.VersionInfo.FileVersion
    $item.VersionInfo.Comments
Thanks.
