Veeam Agent for Linux: Dedup

Post by Sebbo »

Hey,
I've just checked the config XML file:

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><Config Version="1" /><Repositories><Repository Name="Repository_1" Type="Share" RepositoryOptions='<OnShareRepositoryOptions Version="1" Address="10.100.20.50/backup/veeam" FsType="cifs" Login="backup" Password="" Domain="" />' /></Repositories><Jobs><Job Name="Daily_Image_Backup" creation_time="2016-08-11 09:00:44" RepoName="Repository_1"><JobOptions Compression="Lz4" BlockSize="KbBlockSize1024" PrefreezeCommand="" PostthawCommand="" MaxPoints="14" IsDedupEnabled="false" Schedule="true"><Schedule Hours="11" Minutes="0"><WeekMask Sunday="true" Monday="true" Tuesday="true" Wednesday="true" Thursday="true" Friday="true" Saturday="true" /></Schedule></JobOptions><ObjectsForBackup><Object ObjectType="AllSystem" RecordType="Include" Value="" /></ObjectsForBackup></Job></Jobs><VbrServers />
There is an option called "IsDedupEnabled".

The help page of "veeamconfig job create" says following about it:
--dedup Enable inline data deduplication
Does it mean, what I think? It's only saving once a file/directory and all other "duplicates" are being (sym-) linked.

Anyway: This feature is helpful at all and saves more or less a lot of disk space. Well... Why is this feature disabled by default?

It's currently not implemented however it is added already in the config etc. It will become more clear towards GA how this will help. Stay tuned!
