If you have been experiencing a "Storage not initialized error" within Veeam Backup and Replication during a backup job writing backup data to a NetApp AltaVault please read.
Veeam support along with NetApp dev team have found a bug on the NetApp AvtaVault firmware 4.x versions up to 4.2.1 D2.
The bug is more proficient on NFS shares then SMB shares, but what was happening on either case was you would have your backup job fail because of a "Storage not initialized error"
What was really happening; Some how the AltaVault was changing the backup files because checksum ran on the Veeam files in the AltaVault were yielding different results each time.
Good News! NetApp released a fix for this bug today. I have posted the links for the D Patch below for the AVA400, AVA800 and AVAV.
