Support for Nutanix AHV

Hi

Are there any plans for Veeam to support backup of VM's on the Nutanix Acropolis AHV? We are currently evaluating the hypervisor as a replacement for VMware and so far if we go this route, Hyper-V is the only supported alternative for Veeam backup.

Please add feature ....Nutanix Acropolis hypervisor support. We are a cloud provider and would like to migrate our datacenters to Acropolis. We also have alot of customers who wants to do the same.

The basic 3 node setup is a nice substitution for a classic 2 node + shared storage solution

Zero, because Veeam don't support them, and backups with Veeam are mandatory in a virtualized world

Seriously, in my company could be 2 - 3 customers a year with Nutanix, with a total of 6 - 9 hosts

Like many others, my company has gone full-in on Nutanix. We have replaced all our legacy virtualization systems with Nutanix. At this time we are still using VMware. However, one customer is already going to AHV ( Nutanix version of KVM ). I expect others to follow. I strongly recommend Veeam give serious consideration to adding KVM support.

While Veeam is wonderful software, the truth is, it's easy to change backup software. We will do so when the lack of AHV support becomes an issue.

We will certainly react to the changing market conditions in case Nutanix starts grabbing significant market share. As our own history shows, it's hard to be late to market when the certain technology is really growing significantly (we were not the first or even the second vendor with VMware-specific backup tool).

Keeping our existing 205000 customer base is the biggest priority for us, while adding support for another hypervisor will definitely reduce the pool of R&D resources available to deliver based on their needs, so we're extremely careful when it comes to committing to supporting additional platforms.

I am seriously impressed with Nutanix and their hypervisor AVH.
The only drawback at the moment is I can't use veeam with AVH and I love Veeam. Nearly had a heart attack when it was suggested I could go back to Commvault.
From the rapid growth of Nutanix over the last 5 years there has to be a significant customer base already with Nutanix.
Admittedly a lot of them will be VMware sites but once Veeam can backup AVH why pay for licensing when there is a free, fully supported hypervisor included with full Nutanix support.

We are a new Veeam customer and so far I have been pleased. After purchasing our first Nutanix clusters, there is no going back. I plan on fully removing the exorbitant VMware licensing as soon as I can. 50-100k in licensing support per year is ridiculous. AHV or some form of commoditized hypervisor is the future. After going to the .NEXT convention there are now 2 vendors with support for AHV and more coming on board by Q4 according to Nutanix. I would love to see Veeam hop on board and support the future as well. With Rubrik coming on board to provide simplified backups for AHV, if Veeam can't or won't at least give it a shot....I know where my next backup software will come from. Pretty please....with sugar on top....I don't want to switch backup vendors again.

Yes, you can try to use Veeam Endpoint Backup for this task.

This thread was mostly discussing the hypervisor support by Veeam B&R so far, while Veeam Endpoint Backup is installed directly on the guest OS regardless of the platform it is running on (including physical). Linux servers backup will be also available soon.

Just picked up a Nutanix box, and would love to have Veeam support it. Current 8.x customer, and would happily upgrade to 9.x or 10.x whenever Nutanix support comes up.
