"Recovering" from a Permanent Failover.

Hi,

I have a client who has failed over a Prod VM to a DR replica, using the permanent failover method. (The reasons are irrelevant at this point - what is done, it done).

Users are running from the permanent DR replica as 'Prod'.

They now wish to effectively fail the now permanent DR 'replica' VM back to their production site and then re-establish a Prod -> DR replica relationship again.

They have subsequently tried a separate restore of the VM back into Prod - this failed with a 'snapshot removal error'.

My thoughts are:

• Delete the Prod VM as it is now stale/tainted.
  One time replication from the DR 'replica' back to the Prod site
  Permanent failover from DR 'replica' to Prod.
  Tidy up DR side (delete old 'VM?)
  Re=establish a Prod -> DR replication job again.

Application versions in use are Veeam 9.x (build unknown) and vSphere 5.5 (again, build unknown)

Any thoughts on the approach?

The approach looks fine, I'd just recommend using planned failover to avoid any data loss during this controlled failover.
