SureBackup failures likely being caused by KB3139914

Post by capplanet22 » 4 people like this post

So I figured I'd share what I ran into recently. I was running into surebackup failures over the weekend where veeam wasn't able to run the test scripts, even the built in ones. I had to kill all the processes to stop the surebackup job since stopping the job wouldn't do anything. The only thing that changed between this and last week on the server was a run of windows updates. I plugged all the windows updates into the google™ and found one that looked like it might have caused my issue: KB3139914 which is for the secondary logon service.

So I uninstalled that update and voila! my surebackup jobs ran.

The server in question was on 2012 R2

It seems to only affect surebackup jobs tied to application groups where the credentials for the VM are specified instead of being left the default blank.

If someone at veeam or otherwise could test this out and confirm, we might be able to save a bunch of people some headaches.

Thanks for the heads up. We will check this internally and update the thread once we get any results.

Thank you very much!
We have confirmed that issue is caused by this KB.
Now we will try to find permanent resolution for the problem, meanwhile deleting that KB or having creds blank are workaround for the problem.

I ran into the same issue this morning and working with tech support we determined that this update was affecting me as well. As others have said, simply uninstall and reboot and then your SureBackup jobs will run again.

Actually there is a hotfix for this problem, that can be applied on top of 9.0U1.
We are also planning to merge this fix into future updates.

If you need this hotfix, please ask your support engineer to search support wiki by words 'Failed to create process with net logon'.

Hello,

Is there a hotfix for this issue for Veeam BR 9.0.0.902? I can't uninstall the update for security reasons and need to be able to run custom scripts under predefined credentials.

There's no hotfix for the base release you currently have, however, the fix for this issue is included in Veeam B&R Update 2 (build 9.0.0.1715), so upgrade is recommended.

For some reason I thought I was already on the latest one. I will give it a try.

Thanks!
