Design-questions

Post by fraggeln »

Hello,
We are in the phase of designing our backupsolution based on veeam.
Initially we will use the Enteprise Management-webgui and 4 veeam-B&R-servers,

Now to my questions,
Can all of those share the same database or do we need to have different database-instances?
We are going to build on version 5 if that makes any difference.

Can I configure a job to write to different datapaths/drives?
Can I use GPT-partitions(larger then 2TB) as destinations?

Hello

1. v5 servers can be deployed to use the same database.
2. Each job can only have 1 destination.
3. Yes, you can use any destination as long as Veeam Backup server can see it, and write/read data to/from there (you can test this with Windows Explorer).

Thanks!

Hello,

Another design query. We have three virtual sites. We currently have have a single install of VBR running our VC server at site one. Another site is using VMware Data Recovery. We have bought a Veeam license for the third site but I don't know the best way to implement this. I would like to centralise our backups, as this is an approach we are taking with the physical environment. Or must we have a VBR at each Vm locaiton on the network? What is best practise?

Many thanks,
Thom

Hello, sure - you can simply install VBR in each site (for best backup performance, ability to do Instant VM Recovery in each site, etc), and federate them with Enterprise Manager for consolidated management/reporting/search. This is approach most of our customers are using today. Thanks!

Many thanks Gostev, but what is Enterprise Manager?

It is a standalone web-based component, which is used to manage multiple Veeam Backup servers. Please have a look at User Guide (page 148) for more information: http://www.veeam.com/files/guide/veeam_ ... _guide.pdf

Great, thanks for this. I have installed Veeam in a VM, is the software multi CPU aware. For example can I assign more than one virtual CPUs to the VM?

Yes, actually it is our recommendation to use multi-core or multi-CPU configs. We recommend that you grant Veeam Backup VM 4 vCPU to get the best data processing performance.
