compact bug / unwanted behaviour

Post by hyvokar »

Hi!

On weekend I noticed that I'm running out of disk space on my VBR server, so I decided to disable "defragment and compact" full backup file.
The backup job had already started, so this had no effect. The compact failed as expected.

However, the setting seems not taking effect until the compact has been successfully run, since it tries compacting the backup file every time after backup now.

running vbr9 u2

Hi,

What is your compact schedule, is it daily or you left it default?

Thanks

Please try to clone the job and map the clone the existing backup chain. After that start the cloned one and see if it will attempt to run compact.

Thanks

Anyway, this behavior is not expected, compact shouldn't be triggered if the check box is not enabled at the time the job starts.

Thanks, i'll try that. The compact job has gone mad. It now tries to compact again, even when I ran the full compact yesterday.
If i start using scale out repositories, can compact job span to a new repository?

Good! Please contact support team as the issue has to be investigated. If you have already done that please post the case ID.

Not sure if there's anything to investigate, since I deleted the original job already

Even though you've deleted the job its logs should be still available.

I had enabled Compact on all of my jobs with varying schedules so only one job would be compacting per day, and the next time the backups ran, all of the compacted and caused major issues. So I disabled Compact on all of them and have been enabling it one at a time, but I still had 4 jobs trying to compact today although their schedule is set for 2+ weeks out from now.
