New Host Hardware Veeam License Transitory ?

Post by Wad4iPod »

Greetings,
We are refreshing one of our ESXi hosts.
While doing so we will (temporarily) have more processors in use than we're licensed for.

Once the VM Guests are migrated to the new host - our VEEAM licensing will be in compliance.

The VM Guests will be migrated over a few days and we'll want to keep backing them up during the migration.
Is there a way we can back the unlicensed host during the migration time fame?
I had thought about trying to use a temporary/trial license. Would that work?

Also - We are running VEEAM 8.2084.
Is it possible to not recreate the FULL backup VBK after migrating the VM's to a new host? Basically, just keep running our backups (VBR) like they don't know the VM's are on a new host? Rather this than recreating the base VBK if possible.

Thank you..

Would that work?
Yep, that should work. Otherwise, you can request temporary license with increased counters from your sales representative.

It is, take a look at this KB article.

I am wondering if using the VEEAM quick migration to move the VM''s to the new host might be best. If we do use the Quick Migration - will VEEAM perform a full VBK (Active Full) backup or will VEEAM know it is the same VM just on a new host?

will VEEAM perform a full VBK (Active Full) backup
Correct, as VMs will get new IDs assigned after migration. The mentioned utility is the only way to avoid full backup cycle. Thanks.
