Backup location on a Windows based machine

Post by kpl »

Hello Community,

i just installed Veeam Backup for Linux 1.0.0.499-1 on Suse Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP1 (Gnome 3.10.2). Installation ran through without any problems although DKMS was a bit tricky though.

Now I want to backup a VM and save it on a windows based machine, like where all our Hyper-V Veeam backups are stored.
When I get to the point for Location -> Server/Directory I put in the IP and the shared folder. But it wont be able to store it there. "mount system call failed Unable mount device [...]"

Any tips for me how I get this done?

Thanks in advance.

Greetings.

Can you mount the CIFS share on other servers without problems? Do you have the cifs utils package installed and if so can you try a test mount on the server?

I'm verry sorry for the late response.

I still stuck with this issue that I can't store the backup on a Windows share.

Now I'm using the Linux Agent Beta2.
After I start the backupjob it says follwing Errors:
Failed to create volume snapshot
Child execution has failed, Exit code: [1].
Failed to load module [veeamsnap] with Parameters [deferiocache=0 debuglogging=0].
Failed to perform backup

veeamsnap Version 1.0.0.678
veeam suse 1.0.0.678

Had Problems while installing veeam suse with ncurses-libs... installed it with --nodep

Any tips or suggestions!?

Thanks in advance

Greetings

Hi,

Please find /etc/modprobe.d/unsupported-modules and change the allow_unsupported_modules from 0 to 1. There is another ncurses package for SUSE called libncurses5, thanks for heads up!

Thanks

Hi

thank you for your reply.

I do find /etc/modprobe.d/ but there is no unsupported-modules.

I did install those libcurses5 packages already and also libcurses6... meanwhile I installed all libcurses which are available for sle12 to fix this issue but no success.

Info:
The backupjob creates on my Windows based share at least Folders with the correct Name but with no Content.

Thank you for your help

That's expected since VAL is not able to load kernel module.
I do find /etc/modprobe.d/ but there is no unsupported-modules.
Do you still use SLES 12? Please list the content of modprobe.d directory.

Thanks

@davidbellido,

Please make sure that you've allowed the kernel module to be loaded, check this post.

Thanks
