Backup Citrix Appdisk images

Post by BDennis »

Hello all,

I wanted to ask about backing up Citrix App disks, this is kind of a challange to get these into backups. Its for a customer of us, who is setting up a new Citrix Appdisk environment.

The thing is, with Appdisk if im correct it will be generating vmdisk images, that will be cloned to generate vm's for production. When changing something on this appdisk, it will be generating a new folder in the datastore and ID number for the vmdisk.

You would see the following in the VMware datastore:
[LUN3] AppDisk-VirtualDiskId-07a7552c-49e7-41d8-a26b-5899c111\15 Aug 2016 13-12-36.8546Z.vmdk

It is not connected to a VM in VMWare, and is changing name when it gets updates. So that makes it a challange to backup all the Appdisk files.

Our customer is asking for this, so thats why im asking if anyone has any experience on this. And if there is a easy way to add these to backups?

Thansk in advance!

Hi Dennis, nothing besides using file copy jobs comes to my mind.
