Feature request: Option to automatically adjust proxy's jobs

Post by hyvokar »

Hi!

I'd love to have option to automatically adjust transport proxy's concurrent amount job.
I often have to change proxies cpu amount and this option would make job a little bit faster.

On Proxy Server page, next to amout of concurrent tasks a checkbox "auto adjust" and + and - values to modify it even further (for example [amout of cpus]+2 jobs, or [amount_of_cpus] -1 jobs.)

Hi hyvokar,
Could you clarify why you change number of CPUs on your proxy?
For me that seems like the only use case to implement the feature.

I only see the use case when the proxy is virtual and you are trying to tune it a bit, but honestly once the tuning is completed ,how many times you do this operation? You change the amount of cpu daily???

Seldom, not definitely daily. But yes, sometimes when we have bigger workloads or when we take in new big customers.

e: all the proxies are virtual

That looks like a pretty rare case, let`s see if more people need the feature.
Thanks for the feedback!

Not this feature but i want to tell this.

Two backup job started same time (daily and weekly) and they use different proxies snapshot operation is dangerous. Two backup jobs take the snapshot same VM.

But If two backup jobs (daily and weekly) use same proxy another backup job wait the finish backing up VM even if they started same time.

Is there any chance add this protection?

Two backup jobs created on the same backup server shouldn't snapshot a single VM twice, regardless of what proxies are assigned. One job should wait for the other to "release" VM. Do you observe different behavior?

By the way the best practice is to avoid taking snapshot and backup same VM twice if you need to copies. You can leverage backup copy job instead especially if you need GFS backup scheme.
Thanks!
